If you have enjoyed Carica wines, welcome to the website of the vineyard that got Carica started! In 2005, Kick Ranch’s owner, Dick Keenan, started Carica Wines with Charlie Dollbaum, a local winemaker, with a goal of making ultra-premium wines from Kick Ranch. Carica’s first wine released was a Sauvignon Blanc from Kick Ranch and a Kick Ranch syrah followed. Dick and Charlie ended their wine partnership in 2010, but not before Dick had introduced Carica to many friends, Notre Dame fans, and Bay Area wine enthusiasts. And in three years Dick had succeeded in having Carica wines placed on some of the Bay Area’s best restaurant wine lists as well as carried at the some of best known wine stores in the New York City area and Los Angeles.

In 2010 and this year, Dick has focused his wine energies on strengthening the impressive list of Sonoma and Napa wineries who make wines from Kick Ranch grapes. This week Dick is inviting the many people to whom he introduced Carica wines over the years to become fans of Kick Ranch. Some terrific wineries are crafting Kick Ranch wines – please register so you can learn why!

After another cool summer, we reduced the amount of grape clusters hanging on our vines to be sure we can ripen the remaining fruit for an October harvest. Vineyard crews walked every vine row and looked at every vine to decide if fruit should be dropped to meet the high standards we set for Kick Ranch grapes. Our crews hustled to get their work done so there is plenty of ripening time left for the vines.

Our Kick Ranch website has been updated to highlight the team work of everyone involved in growing and making wonderful wines featuring Kick Ranch grapes. You will find new information pages about Kick Ranch and our grape growing, the farm now at Kick Ranch and the many wineries who buy our grapes. You will also find an ever changing display of pictures that highlight the beauty of Kick Ranch and the people who work very hard here. We have links to the websites of the wineries making Kick Ranch wines, and we hope you will enjoy their wines!

Going forward, watch for blog entries about what we’re doing throughout the year to grow premium grapes, client winery events and when Kick Ranch is in the (wine) news. Please subscribe to our mailing list so we can keep you posted! Thanks and again welcome.
